if i had to pick one dress that completely stands out among the rest, i’d have to say it was Michelle Williams’ vibrant yellow Vera Wang dress from the 2006 Oscars. i’m sure some people will scoff at this because it isn’t the typical A-line or mermaid dress, but that’s precisely why i love it. Michelle is absolutely stunning in it, and to be bold enough to own this color and style in a vast sea of “ordinary” on the red carpet speaks volumes. not many people could pull off this dress, but she does so in the most demure fashion i’ve seen this side of the millennium – she is the quintessential vision of old-world Hollywood glam here.
i love how the deep, plunging V framed by the pleated ruffle and the gathering just below the waist perfectly blends the right amount of today’s modern flair with classic glam. the obvious draw of this dress, though, is the color. without a doubt. yellow is tricky, though, and can border on obnoxious if the hue and tone aren’t just right. but this dress borders on perfection and catches the eye in all the right ways. says me.
well done Vera… and well done Michelle!
here’s a similar vibe from Vera Wang’s 2011 Bridal Collection.
this dress makes me think of Shakespeare for some reason.
i really like the understated color of this gray paired with the bold, black ribbon belt. i am also quite enamored with both the gentle, seemingly haphazard ruching along the length of the skirt and the delicate, one-sided draping over the shoulders. so very feminine.
